Giving to The Stanford University Libraries - Gift Opportunities

General Gifts

- Donate to the General Gifts Fund, a flexible fund enabling us to address our most urgent and opportune needs.

- Embark on a personal program of Annual Giving to sustain the libraries’ foundation of excellence by making a multi-year pledge.

Collection Development

- Honor the memory of a departed loved one or the achievements of a living person: gifts to The Memorial Fund and The Celebration Fund result in new books bearing bookplates naming both the donor and the loved one.

- Enhance a Collection Focus with a gift for acquisitions in the subject of your choice.

Special Collections

- Bestow or help us acquire Rare or Unique Research Materials and Archives to enrich the inquiries of student and faculty for decades to come. See some of the remarkable collections acquired as a result of donor interest and action.

- Sponsor an installation, opening reception and catalog in The Exhibits Program.

Innovation in Library Science

- Protect, restore, or stabilize rare books and manuscripts, sound recordings, and graphic, cartographic and photographic images through Conservation and Digital Preservation.

- Subscribe to critically important Online Databases, Electronic Journals, Articles, and other E-Resources for the use of the Stanford community.

- Foster Special Projects, often in coordinated efforts with renowned libraries and institutions across the globe. For recent examples, see list of funded projects and those who made them possible.

- Underwrite deployment and development of advanced research tools by a gift to Academic Information Resources, comprising Academic Computing, Humanities Digital Information Service, Social Science Data Service, and Residential Computing.

- Sustain Stanford’s tradition of excellence and innovation in Academic Publishing by a gift to the Stanford University Press or the HighWire Press, an online publishing partner for over 1000 scholarly journals.

Special Gifts and Endowments

- Cultivate a deep collection of bibliographic resources in a beloved subject by creating an Endowed Book Fund, the most accessible of all named endowments at Stanford with a minimum initial donation of $25,000. To view an exhibition of bookplates from many endowed book funds, click here.

- Establish a Curatorial Chairfor a leadership position in programs and services of the libraries, named for a person, couple, family or group. For examples, see list of current endowed positions.

- Endow a program for undergraduate Student Library Interns, helping them earn their way through college, while exposing them deeply to the mechanisms of organizing information.

- Revitalize a study space, collection area, or information portal by endowing a Named Space in memory or honor of a Stanford alumnus, family or even a cherished professor. For examples, see list of named facilities.
