Stanford Authentication for Proxy Access

[Return to Stanford Proxy Home]

Once you set up your browser for proxying, whenever you connect to a restricted resource you'll be asked to enter your SUNet ID and password. You can do this by running Stanford's PC-Leland or MacLeland client sofware on your system or by entering your login information on a SUNet Login Web page.

PC-/MacLeland Authentication

  • Requires installation of PC-Leland or MacLeland software on your computer.

  • May not work with some types of connections, particularly DSL or cable modem connections, or connections that use a software or hardware firewall.

  • More convenient because it allows you to enter your SUNet authentication information only once.

Web Login Authentication

  • Requires no software installation and works with most Internet connections.

  • Less convenient, because it requires you to enter your SUNet authentication information each time you connect to a new domain. For some sites, this may mean that you see the authentication Web page two or more times before you get to the site itself.
