E-Journal Link Problem

Under certain conditions links used on the Libraries' electronic journal pages may not work properly through Stanford's proxy server. The problem happens if:

  1. You are using a browser other than Internet Explorer.
  2. You are not using PC-/MacLeland or the proxy server cannot recognize that you are authenticated through PC-/MacLeland.

If you run into the problem, you will see a confirmation page with the heading Your SUNet ID has been verified: containing a URL that begins like this:

http://64.49.248.113/Admin/Statistics/Links_Tracking.asp?LinkName=http://search.epnet.com/direct.aspERGqueERGdbERGequERG

If you click on the Continue button at this point, you will see a message that says "The page cannot be displayed" or "HTTP/1.1 405 Method not allowed". This happens because the URL you are trying to go to contains specially encoded information that makes it invalid.

To work around this problem, follow this procedure:

  1. When you get to the confirmation page for your SUNet ID, open a new browser window and go to this URL:

    http://library.stanford.edu/tdn_cleanup

  2. Copy the encoded URL from the confirmation page into the text box in the window you opened. You can copy the entire URL if you wish, but make sure you include at least the part the begins LinkName= through the part that ends &Title=. Note that the URL may extend beyond the edge of the screen, so you may need to scroll to see it all.
  3. Click the Submit button. You will see a version of the original URL that will work correctly through Stanford authentication.
