Digital Library Research Engineer

This is a 3 year fixed term position in Stanford Library's Digital Library Systems and Services group based on the main Stanford campus.
The Stanford University Libraries is seeking an innovative, experienced, team-oriented software developer to build sophisticated, sustainable, and generalizable tools and infrastructure as part of Stanford's world-class digital library. The position will focus on the development of systems that enable online access and discovery of digital resources, and that directly support interdisciplinary digital research at Stanford and beyond. Examples of software the Digital Library Research Engineer might work on include:
- SearchWorks, the library online catalog (http://searchworks.stanford.edu)
- Spotlight, an online exhibits platform (http://exhibits.stanford.edu)
- EarthWorks, a geospatial discovery system (http://earthworks.stanford.edu)
- Mirador, a tool for comparative analysis and annotation of images (http://projectmirador.org)
- Authorial London, a platform for the study of literary geography (http://authorial.stanford.edu)
The Digital Research Engineer may work on projects that directly support faculty and student research projects, applying skills in information visualization; machine learning, statistical and textual analysis; natural language processing; event modeling; large dataset management and transformation; digital content creation, storage, and discovery; geospatial analysis; high performance computing concepts; or network analysis.
The Digital Library Research Engineer will join a distinguished and widely-recognized team of nearly 70 software developers, information architects, user experience designers, DevOps engineers, system administrators, project managers and academic technologists with combined decades of expertise in building tools and infrastructure in support of research and teaching. Our team is a leader in the global library and cultural heritage technology communities, leads and contributes to open source projects, and helps develop and contribute to open standards.
