This is a 3 year fixed term position in Stanford Library's Digital Library Systems and Services group based on the main Stanford campus. This position is dual posted at level 2 or level 3.
Stanford University Libraries seeks a software engineer to imagine, create and sustain infrastructure, applications and services for Stanford's Digital Library. We are looking for a qualified and dedicated developer and tool builder to join a world class team devoted to collaborative development of sophisticated software to support the Library's mission of creating, preserving and making digital resources available in support of teaching, learning and research. Come work in an agile-inspired, test-driven, team environment, balancing the rapid and incremental delivery of new functionality with operational robustness.
This developer will work on a variety of projects relating to the core functions of a Digital Library. These include depositing and publishing resources, data and content management, preservation and replication, all at a large scale. Current initiatives involve sustaining and enriching ongoing services while migrating to a second generation implementation of Stanford's Digital Repository built around linked data, open standards, and community driven technologies like Hydra. Developing and using open standards and open source software is an explicit objective of the position.
The Digital Library Software Engineer will join a distinguished and widely-recognized team of nearly 70 software developers, information architects, user experience designers, DevOps engineers, system administrators, project managers and academic technologists with combined decades of expertise in building tools and infrastructure in support of research and teaching. Our team is a leader in the global library and cultural heritage technology communities, leads and contributes to open source projects, and helps develop and contribute to open standards.
The successful candidate will be a skilled software developer with experience in the full technology stack. In particular we are looking for engineers with expertise in Ruby on Rails, Solr, and data management technologies like SQL, rdf and linked data.
