The Antiquities of Athens, Measured-and Delineated by James Stuart...and Nicholas Revett.
A New Edition.
London: Priestley and Weale 1825-30.
Acquired through the Stanford University Bookstore Fund.

This is the second edition (rarer even than the first), in which the first three volumes from the first edition (printed 1762-1794) were re-edited, with new footnotes by William Kinnard (d. 1839) and produced in lavish folio, with dozens of plates. This is a major scholarly revision of one of the greatest of eighteenth-century texts of Classical scholarship; that first edition was a sumptuous a∂air as well, an antiquarian enterprise sponsored by wealthy dilettanti with an interest in antiquity, and published in a format fit for their great libraries.
