Introduction

Terence.

P. Terentii Afri Comoediae; ex recensione Danielis Heinsii collata ad antiquissimos mss. Codices Bibliothecae Vaticanae, cum variantibus lectionibus, larvis et personis epromptis ex eisdem codicibus, et Italica versione....
Romae: Impensis Nicolai Roisechii bibliopolae, 1767.
Acquired through the Robert L. Goldman Fund.

This edition of Terence's plays features a translation into Italian by Niccolo Forteguerri (1674-1735) and the Latin text edited by Daniel Heinsius (1580-1655). A lavish, beautiful, eighteenth-century production in folio, this version features engraved facsimile specimens of manuscripts at the Vatican Library, 153 engraved vignettes of cast members in costume from the various plays (including one of two cast members carrying a portrait of Terence), seven engraved plates of masks, forty-five engraved tail-pieces, and fifteen engraved historiated initials.
