Introduction

Virgil.

Les Eglogues.
Paris: Plon-Nourrit, 1906.
Acquired through the Hearst Foundation, the French & Italian, the Kenyon Law Starling, and the Morgan A. & Aline D. Gunst Funds.

A lavish and highly decorated Art Nouveau book illustrated by Adolphe Giraldon, who also designed the typeface in which the book is printed. This was the greatest achievement of Giraldon, a leading type designer of his age. This copy was presented by Giraldon to Arthur Meyer, proprietor of the newspaper Le Gaulois, and is bound in a beautiful mosaic binding by Marius Michel.
