Introduction

Li Xiaodi Huang Kuangzhong and Wu Zhengshang, ed 8s.
Su wenxue congkan
[A series of folklore literature].
Taipei: Xin wenfeng chuban gongsi, 2002.
200 vols.

Containing a wealth of materials, much of it from primary sources that are largely unavailable to scholars outside of Taiwan, this series casts light upon topics from local opera and vernacular librettos to prosimetric literature and drama scripts. This completes a four hundred-volume project by Academia Sinica on Chinese folklore literature from the mid-eighteenth through early-twentieth centuries in China. It promises to be the most complete resource for the study of Chinese folklore and folk culture.
