Introduction

Qinglong da zang jing
[The Great Qianlong Buddhist Tripitaka]. Taipei: Baoyin fojing litongchu, 1997-2002.
169 vols.

The Tripitaka is the formal term for a Buddhist canon of scriptures, many di∂erent versions of which exist throughout the Buddhist world, containing an enormous variety of texts. Two of the most widely known versions are the Korean and Qianlong editions, which were complied during the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries respectively. Together these two sets consist of 3,173 canons and represent two of the largest wood-block printed works in the world.
