William Shakespeare.

The Works of Shakespear, in Six Volumes: Carefully Revised and Corrected by the Former Editions, and Adorned with Sculptures....
Oxford: Printed at the Theatre, 1743-1744.
Acquired through the Stanford University Bookstore Fund.

This is the first edition of Shakespeare to include illustrations of the Westminster and Stratford Shakespeare monuments. The editor, Thomas Hanmer, was a former Speaker of the House of Commons, and is generally remembered as the last of the amateur editors of Shakespeare. Hanmer subsidized this lavish edition, handsomely printed at the Oxford University Press.
