Introduction

Lee Felsenstein.

The Papers of Lee Felsenstein, 1972-c.1995.
Gift of Lee Felsenstein.

This collection contains the papers and business records of one of the pioneers of microcomputer and personal computer design. An engineering graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Lee Felsenstein designed several influential computers and peripherals in the mid-1970s, such as the Sol and the first successful portable computer, the Osborne I. He was also co-founder of the influential Community Memory Project, which developed the first public-access community information system, beginning in 1972; and a founding member of the Homebrew Computer Club in 1975, the center of the microcomputer design universe in the late 1970s, which he moderated for many years. He also founded the R&D company, Golemics, and was a fellow at Interval Research. The Felsenstein papers include business records, design documents, correspondence, technical documentation, and many other materials related to his career and work.
