Gift of Douglas Menuez.

This collection of documentary and artistic photography represents the work of an award-winning photojournalist. Douglas Menuez has shot photographs for news magazines such as Time, Newsweek, Life, and Fortune, as well as working for newspapers and as an independent photographer. His photographs were the basis for Defying Gravity: The Making of Newton (1993), which won a number of awards, and his work has been featured in numerous publications and shows. This gift is a major addition to the Silicon Valley Archives, due to Menuez's attention through the 1980s and 1990s to the culture of technology companies and entrepreneurs. With unique access to dozens of companies behind the usual scenes, his photographs are an important visual resource of unusual historical depth. The collection consists of roughly 300,000 images, of which 250,000 document the history of Silicon Valley.
