One of the most acclaimed of contemporary Mexican American authors, Hinojosa Smith is the author of numerous novels and collections of short stories and has been published in every major creative writing journal pertaining to Chicano literature and the literature of the Southwest. His writings include Estampas del valle y otyras obras: Sketches of the Valley and Other Works (1973) and Klail City y sus alrededores (1976), for which he won the Casa de las Américas literary prize. The critical reception of Hinojosa Smith's work has been substantial, including many doctoral dissertations.
