Humanities Digital Information Service Scanning Lab
The Humanities Digital Information Service maintains a small scanning
lab in Green Library consisting of a bitonal overhead book scanner
(Minolta PS7000), a high-speed grayscale scanner with sheet feeder
(Fujitsu ), and a color scanner with sheet feeder (Epson 860), along
with some temporary storage space and network connectivity. All
scanners are supported by basic scanning software, along with Adobe
Capture for fine-tuned production of PDF files; in addition, there
is some extra non-Adobe OCR capacity and basic image manipulation
software. The lab is in a locked, staff-only room, so projects done
there are either internal to, or by special arrangement with, SUL/AIR;
the most general and basic requirement for projects admitted to
the lab is that they produce files destined for the permanent SUL/AIR
digital library collection. The HDIS scanning lab has been the site
of several visible projects, including an innovative scan-on-demand
interlibrary loan service (dd-ILL), the "Discovering Dickens"
community reading program, and a number of archival and text conversion
initiatives of the Libraries and the Stanford Humanities Laboratory.
Available for use by: Library Staff Only
Location: Green Library West
