Falconer Collections
Falconer Biology Library offers broad coverage of the life sciences.
Areas of particular strength are biochemistry, biophysics, cell
and developmental biology, genetics and molecular biology, neurobiology,
and population biology. The collection contains over 100,000 volumes,
including approximately 900 active serial titles. Major reference
tools available in the library include BIOSIS Previews, MEDLINE,
SciSearch, and AGRICOLA.
Digital resources include a growing number of electronic journals and reference
works. To find electronic resources, use Socrates
or the Stanford University Libraries
& Academic Information Resources web site.
Finding Library Materials
SOCRATES, the online
library catalog of Stanford University Libraries, contains bibliographic records
for all items acquired by Falconer Biology Library. To find journal articles,
consult periodical indexes such as BIOSIS, MEDLINE, CAB Direct, AGRICOLA, SciSearch, Aquatic
Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts, PsycINFO, and INSPEC.
Shelving Arrangement
Books and reference materials are shelved by call number, whereas journals
and review serials are shelved alphabetically by significant words in the title.
Theses are shelved alphabetically by author's name.
Publications
Library publications and handouts are available near the circulation desk.
Brief guides to BIOSIS and AGRICOLA, MEDLINE, SciSearch, and other databases
of interest to users of the literature of the biological sciences are available.
