ArcInfo Installation Instructions

* First install Desktop ArcInfo and then Workstation ArcInfo.

Installation of Desktop ArcInfo
1. Remove any previous versions of ArcInfo: Desktop, Workstation, and Data. Delete the contents of the 'C:\arcgis' folder.

2. Make sure you meet all system requirements for both Desktop and Workstation.

3. Double click to unzip 'arcgis9.zip', and extract the files to a new directory.

4. Unzip Desktop.zip and run the 'Setup.exe' application.

5. On the first screen click 'Next'. Read and accept the license agreement and click 'Next' again.

Note: If the setup program prompts, update Microsoft system files and allow the setup program to reboot your system. Remember to login using the same username and password as before. If the installer doesn't start up automatically, run "Setup.exe" again.

6. Select 'Browse for License Manager on the network' and hit 'Next'.

7. Enter 'pangea.stanford.edu' and hit 'Next'.

8. Choose to install ArcInfo and hit "Next".

9. Choose either:

  • "Complete" installation type - Installs all extensions and programming capabilities.
  • "Custom" installation type - Chooses which applications and extensions to install. (Note: It isn't possible to install extensions later, and the "Typical" installation doesn't include extensions.)

10. Accept the default installation directory by clicking 'Next'.

11. Click 'Next' again to begin the installation.

12. If you have the CDs from Branner Library, you may now install any additional components (ArcGIS Tutorial Data, Desktop Developer Kit, and Crystal Reports) by checking their respective boxes, clicking 'OK', and following the prompts.

13. You will be prompted to reboot. Indicate you wish to restart manually at a later time (i.e. after you have finished installing software).

14. You must now install ArcInfo Workstation.

Installation of Workstation ArcInfo

1. First, install ArcInfo Desktop.

2. Return to the directory to which you originally unzipped arcgis9.zip, and unzip Workstation.zip.

3. Double click on file "SetupWorkstation.exe" within the newly unzipped directory structure.

4. Click 'Next', read and accept the license agreement and click 'Next' again.

5. Choose:

  • "Complete" installation type - Installs all extensions and programming capabilities.
  • "Custom" installation type - Chooses which applications, extensions, or developer kit features to install.

6. Accept the default install directory by clicking 'Next'.

7. Select a workspace directory and click 'Next', then click 'Finish'.

8. Reboot your computer now to complete the installation.

Note: ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 3 at the ESRI website is available. This pack will improve performance and contains maintenance fixes. Please install at your earliest convenience.
