Atlas of the United States
The National Atlas supports the creation of maps on the fly
as well as allows for downloanding the data layers.
Has a helpful FAQ that explains how the data is compressed
and used in GIS products.

of Cancer Mortality in the United States, 1950 - 1994
Produced by the National Cancer Institute, the atlas allows
for creation of customized maps and for the downloading of
tabulated data.

of United States Mortality
From the National Center for Health Statistics, this site
features maps from the Atlas and has links to GIS-related
sites.
- The
Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care
A product of the researchers
at Darmouth Medical School's Center for the Evaluative Clinical
Sciences. The atlas reports on their studies of the
health care system in the United States.

The main page for accessing scientific data, health statistics,
surveillance information, and laboratory information.
- CDC
Wonder
CDC Wonder provides a portal to numeric public health data
including mortality, cancer incidence, hospital discharges,
AIDS, behavioral risk factors, diabetes, and others.
- WISQARS
(Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System)
WISQARS provides customized injury-related mortality data
in through an interactive system. National and state
injury mortality statistics are included.

The home page for the EPO. There are links to the MMWR,
CDC Wonder, publications, and software.
- National
Center for Health Statistics Data Warehouse
As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
this data warehouse contains tabulated national and state
data on such topics as disease, behavioral risk factors, infant
and child health, injury, and vital events.
- National
Center for Injury Prevention and Control
This site allows the user to make maps showing injury-related
mortality in the United States. The data is available to view
using Adobe Acrobat.

- Comprehensive Epidemiologic Data Resource
A site maintained by the Department of Energy to "provide
public access to health and exposure data concerning DOE installations."
There are over 300 data files for public access.
- SEER
- Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results
The National Cancer Institute administers the SEER Program
which provides information on cancer incidence and survival
in the United States. Data is presently available from
1973-1998 and access is available over the Internet.
- Administration
on Aging
A link from this page leads to Online Statistical Data on
the Aging. The statistical data is wide ranging and
includes computerized data on aging, demographics, health,
long term care and disability, and income and employment.
- SAMHSA:
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Statistics
A wide variety of data is available here ranging from gambling
behavior, drug abuse statistics, pregnancy and health, and
treatment data. The bottom of the main page has a link
to public use files.

Archive of Computerized Data on Aging
Their SDA (Survey Documentation & Analysis) System includes
longitudinal studies of aging (1984-1994), national hospital
discharge surveys (1994-1997), and a mortality study from
1992.

WAPHGIS
A GIS and Health listserv sponsored by the Northwest Center
for Public Health Practice at the University of Washington.
While the stated purpose of the listserv is to solve health
problems in Washington State, they strongly encourage those
interested in public health from outside the state to join
the discussion.
