Branner
Library's GIS FTP service
Temporary FTP space is
now available for users who wish to transfer large GIS projects
and files from Branner's machines to an external computer. Files
saved in this location will remain on the server (visible to the
public) for two full days before being automatically erased.
| How
to use the GIS FTP server |
Writing to the
FTP Space
- While logged into
one of the GIS computers in Branner Library, users may upload
files to the P-drive (named "gis on pangea.stanford.edu").
Copying to the remote drive can be accompished by either saving
directly from a GIS application, or by dragging files in Windows
Explorer.
- Users should create
a personal folder in the P:\ root directory and save all work
in it.
- Files written to the
P-drive will remain on Pangea for two full days before being automatically
erased. During this period, all contents of the FTP directory
are available via anonymous access. It is not possible to add
or delete files from the FTP drive while using a computer outside
of Branner Library.
Retreiving Files
from the FTP Space
- When outside of Branner
Library, the GIS FTP drive may be accessed (with read-only permission)
using either a web browser or an FTP client.
- Web browser instructions
- Enter the following
address: ftp://pangea.stanford.edu/pub/brannergis/
- The contents of
the FTP directory will be displayed. Click on your personal
folder.
- To download files,

or file. A menu will pop up, allowing you to "copy to
folder" or "save to disk", depending on which
browser you are using.
