Germanic Collections

  • Wilhelm von Humboldt Manuscript Archives on microfilm. Prof. Kurt Mueller-Vollmer, Professor Emeritus of the Department of German Studies at Stanford, arranged for acquisition of the microfilmed archive of these ethnographic and linguistic manuscripts. Prof. Mueller-Vollmer conducted extensive research using this Nachlass which is held at several archival collections in Germany (Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kulturbesitz) and Poland (Uniwersytet Jagiellonski, Biblioteka Jagiellonska, Krakow); the first results of his work have been published as Wilhelm von Humboldts Sprachwissenschaft: ein kommentiertes Verzeichnis des sprachwissenschaftlichen Nachlasses. (Paderborn, 1993). The microfilming project which was started in 1989 has now come to its completion with the acquisition of two last microfilms from Archiv Schloss Tegel (Germany). A detailed contents description, prepared by Nathalie Auerbach, can be consulted.
The microfiche edition of the Press Archives on German History and International Politics from 1949 - 1960 consists of 250,000 press clippings. It presents valuable material for the examination and investigation of contemporary development between 1949 and 1960 with the main focus being on German politics.
