What's Old

SIAM's Locus archive now available (01/01/05)

Locus, the complete SIAM journal collection online through 1996, is now available! Together with the online access already available to SIAM journals from 1997 to the present, this means that all articles published from 11 SIAM journals
from volume 1 to the current issue are now online (approximately 14,000 articles), with new articles going online as soon as they are accepted for publication. Articles are available in fully searchable PDFs, and articles published between 1980 and 1996 contain reference links to MathSciNet and Zentralblatt für Mathematik. Reference links back through the 1952 content will be added to Locus by 2007.

Jahrbuch now completely available online (02/09/04)

The Jahrbuch project, sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), is complete! The Jahrbuch online database now has all the data of the Jahrbuch über die Fortschritte der Mathematik, which indexes the mathematics literature from 1868-1942.

In addition to Jahrbuch, the database also includes links to a number of selected full-text articles, including those from Mathematische Annalen, Mathematische Zeitschrift, and Abhandlungen der Königlichen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften in Göttingen.

Requesting Interlibrary Borrowing from other libraries via the Web now available (3/1/01)

There is now a web page that lets you request books, dissertations, technical reports, copies of articles, etc. that are not in the collections of the Stanford University Libraries to be delivered from other sources. You must be a current Stanford faculty, staff, visiting scholar, or student to take advantage of this feature. Faculty, scholars, staff and students affiliated with the Graduate School of Business, Hoover Institution, the Law School, and the School of Medicine should contact their libraries for Interlibrary Services.

The URL for the web page is:

http://www-sul.stanford.edu/depts/ils/delivery.html

Links to Document Delivery online request forms can be found in the SUL/AIR web space (http://library.stanford.edu) under “Interlibrary Services” and the Math/CS Library page under “Services & Facilities — Interlibrary Services.”

MIT CogNet(TM) now available (10/00)

MIT CogNet(TM) Library Edition, a searchable collection of electronic texts for cognitive and brain sciences and related fields is now available to Stanford users on the Web. Intended as an online community for the cognitive and brain sciences, people on the Stanford network can access full-text articles and books in these subjects, find links to other reference tools on the Web, and participate in online discussion groups. More content is added on a regular basis.

You can access MIT CogNet on the Web at:

http://cognet.mit.edu/.

Click on “library edition.” There's no need to register, unless you wish to personalize “Your Workspace” at the site or access members-only profile information.

Over 250 books published by MIT Press are available in full text via NetLibrary through this site, as well as articles from journals published by MIT Press via Catchword and Highwire Press. However, the electronic content may lag behind the print or other online sources (such as Project Muse). HotScience is CogNet's monthly interactive editorial intended to promote online discussion about a range of issues in the cognitive and brain sciences by inviting contributors to share a more controversial take on their current research. CogNet Forum enables you to participate in and/or establish moderated discussion groups in your area of interest. Job listings are also posted on the site.

If you choose to register (for free), you can access “Your Workspace.” Here you can create and maintain your online CV, create and maintain an online bibliography, manage your membership profile, update and revise personal contact data, as well as control privacy and security on your account.

Eventually, individual book and journal titles at the site (with their URLs) will be cataloged in Socrates. Please send your comments, suggestions and questions to Linda Yamamoto at linday@stanford.edu.

Renewing Books via the Web ("My Circulation Records") now available (9/10/99)

There is now a web page that lets you see what materials you have checked out, overdue items, paid and unpaid bills, and the status of any hold or recall requests you have placed. You can renew materials due within 14 days of their due date, and you don't have to wait a day to find out whether or not your books have been renewed. You must have both a SUNet ID and University ID to take advantage of this feature. Proxy Card records can't be viewed or renewed using this service. Note that this service does NOT include books checked out from for the Jackson Business Library, Lane Medical Library, and the SLAC Library.

The URL for the web page ("My Circulation Records") is:

http://jenson.stanford.edu:9001/prod/owa/user_servs.auth_form.

Once there, you are prompted for your SUNet ID and password. You can simplify the log-in process if you have PC-Leland or Mac-Leland installed on your computer.

Links to My Circulation Records can be found in the SUL/AIR web space (http://library.stanford.edu) under "Circulation and Access", "Quick Links", and the introductory page to Socrates.

There is also a link from the Math/CS Library page to My Circulation Records. You can find it under "Services & Facilities--Renewals."

While the web page should make renewals easier for you, it won't work if you wait until you get a bill for an overdue book. At that point you will be stuck with a $5 non-refundable billing fee for each book, and you will not be allowed to renew the books. The above web page lets you look to see what you currently have checked out and when each book is due, so you should check it before you leave town for an extended period and return or renew any books that will come due while you are gone.

Always remember to LOGOUT and CLOSE the BROWSER WINDOW at the end of your session to keep your records confidential.

You are responsible for renewing items on or before the due date(s).

Questions? Feel free to contact any of the library staff.

Results from SERG User Survey Now Available (1/4/99)

From: Steve Gass, Head, Science and Engineering Resource Group (SERG)

During spring quarter 1998 the Science and Engineering Resource Group surveyed its user communities. A total of 835 responses were received. The results have now been tabulated and analyzed, and are available for viewing at http://elib.stanford.edu/htdocs/survey/scilib.html. The information gathered provides valuable feedback on current library resources and services, along with a wealth of information for future planning of library services and space for the seven SERG libraries: Falconer Biology, Swain Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Branner Earth Sciences and Map Collections, Engineering, Miller Marine Biology, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, and Physics.
