Math and Computer Sciences Library
Collections
Broad coverage of computer science, mathematics, statistics, and
operations research is offered in a collection of over 63,000
volumes, including approximately 800 journal titles. Materials on computer
hardware and networking are mainly housed in the Engineering Library. The Math/CS Library
has a large collection of technical reports received on exchange
from other universities and industry, as well as those produced on the Stanford campus.
Major reference tools include Mathematical Reviews (online as MathSciNet) and
Computer & Control Abstracts (online as part of Inspec).
Finding Library Materials
SOCRATES, the
online library catalog of Stanford, contains bibliographic
records for all items acquired by the Math/CS Library, including
technical reports. To find journal articles, consult
periodical indexes such as the Mathematical Reviews
(for Stanford users on the WWW at http://ams.rice.edu/mathscinet/),
Science Citation Index,
Current Index to Statistics,
and NTIS. In addition,
INSPEC, the online equivalent of Computer & Control
Abstracts, Electrical & Electronic Abstracts, Physics
Abstracts, and Information Technology, is available
from 1969 to the present via LANL.
Shelving Arrangement
Books and reference materials are shelved by Library of Congress (LC) call number whereas
journals are shelved alphabetically by significant words in the
title. Theses are shelved alphabetically by author's name.
