borrowing privileges | loan periods | renewals & returns | fines & fees

The Music Library welcomes all members of the Stanford community and independent researchers. While the library does not require a Stanford ID to enter and use music materials, borrowing privileges are restricted.

Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing of materials is available only to users with:

Contact the Privileges Desk at Green Library (650) 723-1492 for information on purchasing a borrower's card.

Loan periods

Books and scores : Academic quarter
Recorded media (CDs, DVDs, LPs, etc.) : 7 days for all borrowers
Journals & other Limited Loan : 7 days for graduate students and faculty
Reserves : 4 hours, unless otherwise noted

Microforms, Locked Stack, and Reference Room materials are for use in the library only.

Renewals & Returns

Renewal of loans is permitted if no holds or recalls have been placed on those items. You may renew items in My Account.

***Sound and video recordings may be renewed only once.

All Music Library materials should be returned directly to the Music Library. Please return music media directly to the Circulation Desk; you may use the book drop outside the library entrance for books and scores.

Important! Are all pieces present and accounted for?

When returning scores and recordings, please check to make sure all instrumental parts, sound discs, accompanying booklets, etc. are present. Items returned incomplete cannot be discharged until all parts are present, and overdue fines and/or replacement costs will be billed accordingly.

Fines & Fees

The SULAIR Circulation Policies page lists a wealth of detailed policy and procedural information, about: ID cards, renewals, recalls, overdue bills, blocks, fees & fines, borrower disclosure, liability, and more.

You can review your personal circulation records at My Account. It will list titles you have charged out, fines owed, bills paid and unpaid, and the status of holds and recalls you have placed.

Courtesy overdue reminders are sent via email. Failure to receive such a reminder is not considered grounds for reduction or cancellation of fines. Patrons who borrow vast amounts of material may wish to consult My Account on a regular basis.

Media fines:

For each barcoded item (including CD booklets):

The Music Library does not charge a daily overdue fine. However, on the 7th day overdue you are billed the standard replacement cost plus a $5.00 processing penalty. Please be aware that the $5.00 penalty remains after the item is returned or replaced. Bills may be paid at the Green Library Loan Desk.
