The following items reflect, to a large extent, the manuscript
holdings in the Lully Archive at Stanford University. The Lully Archive
is primarily a microform repository devoted to the music of Jean-Baptiste
Lully (1632-1687). The few supplementary printed items purchased by
the Archive are not included here. Also note, the Stanford Music Library
has purchased additional manuscript and printed material by Lully and
his contemporaries as part of its regular collection. Such material,
while not part of the Archive, may be found through a search of Stanford's
web-based catalog, Socrates.
Many of the microforms in the Lully Archive have received
cataloging as part of the original NEH grants which founded the Archive.
If cataloging for a particular item exists, it will be denoted in the
entry for that item by the phrase "Cataloging available." To view the
cataloging record, you must search for it in Socrates. To compose such a search, choose the browse button at the top
of the screen. Next, add the Stanford call number in the box provided
(e.g. M/F 1776:38), select the call number index called "Sound Recordings"
and the location "Music Library", and press the browse button.
The finding aid itself will be divided into two parts:
the first for microforms of manuscript material and the second for microforms
of printed material. The manuscripts are then organized by country,
city, institution, and call number. At present, only the manuscript
portion of the finding aid is completed. The printed material will be
organized by title of work, year of publication, and publisher. Material
in the Lully Archive is available for use in the Music Library by members
of Stanford University and visiting scholars. Material may not be circulated
or reproduced and is not available on interlibrary loan.
