links into CourseWork
Help is available! Please contact Ray Heigemeir in the Music Library
(raymondh@stanford.edu,
725-1148) for assistance in creating or maintaining a playlist.
Naxos Music Library
Create: Playlists can be created by any Stanford
faculty member. Students cannot create or edit playlists. Links
to individual tracks and to playlists may also be inserted into
Stanford CourseWork pages (see below).
Creating a playlist requires logging in to Naxos Music Library
using a URL that is different than the one used to access the service
through the SULAIR site. A user name and password is also required:
please contact Ray Heigemeir in the Music Library (raymondh@stanford.edu,
725-1148) for your user name and password.
Access: All playlists can be accessed by all Stanford
users; they are not restricted to course registrants.
Name: We recommend you choose your course number
as the name of your playlist; however, you can choose another name,
such as your own name, or the name of your course.
Edit & delete: Any playlist can be edited
by any professor logged in via the “creating playlists”
URL. If you are editing a playlist please take care that it is yours!
Also, playlists will remain on the site until deleted by the creator.
The Music Library will call for an occasional “playlist clean-up”
as is warranted.
Creating a playlist
1. Log in to: www.naxosmusiclibrary.com
(not the Stanford URL), enter user name and password;
2. Search for desired recordings;
3. Click on the track (or tracks) you want to include in the playlist,
click "Add to Playlist" and the track will be added to
an existing playlist. You can also create a new playlist starting
with this track.
4. To edit your playlist, click on the playlist, then click on
the “edit” button at the bottom of the screen. You can
reorder the list by rearranging the track numbers; if you delete
the track number, the track will be deleted from the list. To delete
an entire playlist, click on the “delete” button. Please
note that track names cannot be edited; if you have a long list
of generic titles, or if the track identifiers are otherwise insufficient
you may need to create a playlist key to email or otherwise distribute
to your students.
Classical Music
Library (aka, “Classical.com”)
Create: Playlists can be created by any individual
user, once an individual account has been activated. The account
allows you to establish your own user name and password. Playlists
made by an individual cannot be accessed by anyone other than the
individual account owner.
Access: Playlists created by faculty can be shared
by putting them into course folders. To create a course folder,
a faculty member must become a “Course Folder Administrator.”
This is done by sending a request to Ray Heigemeir (raymondh@stanford.edu,
725-1148) including your Classical.com username and your email address.
Expect a brief turnaround while the request is processed by Classical.com.
Course folders may be accessed by all Stanford users. These folders,
along with individual playlists and Classical.com-created playlists,
can be found by selecting the “Playlist Folders” tab
on the Classical.com homepage. Links to individual tracks and to
course folders may also be inserted into Stanford CourseWork pages
(see below).
Name: We recommend you choose your course number
as the name of your playlist; however, you can choose another name,
such as your own name, or the name of your course.
Edit & delete: The creator of a course folder
has sole control over editing and deleting. Additional features
include activating or disabling folders, and allowing access to
folders during specific date ranges. Details may be found in the
“Course Folders” help section of the service.
Insert links into
a CourseWork page
All links from Naxos and Classical.com inserted into CourseWork
must be “static URLs.” Look for these
static URLs listed along with the track/album/folder information.
1. Open CourseWork, select your course, and click on “Course
materials” in the left-hand column.
2. Click on “Administer course materials.”
3. Click on “Add material” (opens new window).
4. Select the “link to URL” button.
5. Paste in the static URL for the track, album, or playlist.
6. Click “next” and continue as with other material.
