Microform Resources
Swain offers broad coverage of chemistry and chemical engineering in a collection
of over 55,500 volumes and about 400 current serial subscriptions. Chemistry and
Chemical Engineering theses from 1950+ are also at Swain. To help use materials
on-site, there are 16 computers, 1 scanner, 3 photocopiers, 3 black & white
printers, 1 color printer, and 1 microfiche/film reader printer, and 1 VCR/TV
(ask for headphones at desk). A cash-to-card dispenser for photocopying and printing
is also available in Swain.
Online Resources
The library provides access to a number of online databases such as Chemical
Abstracts via SciFinder Scholar, Crossfire, Derwent Biotechnology Resource, Derwent
Innovations Index, Engineering Index, Inspec, SciSearch, plus the MDL
Academic Packages. Please note that license agreements for many electronic resources
(e.g., Chemical Abstracts Online and Beilstein Crossfire) restrict access to current
Stanford students, faculty, and staff. Alerting services are available for some
databases.
Access to other digital resources includes a growing number of e-journals and
e-books, especially e-handbooks, plus ACD’s Interactive Web Laboratory. Site-licensed
software includes: AutoNom and CaChe Workstation Pro. See
Subject Guides
for information about resources on the web.
Major Print Resources
Major printed reference sources include Chemical Abstracts (1907- 2001), Beilstein
Handbook of Organic Chemistry, Gmelin Handbook of Inorganic and Organometallic
Chemistry, Houben-Weyl Methoden der Organischen Chemie/Science of Synthesis, and Sadtler
Spectra (IR, Proton-NMR, C13-NMR). Specialized indexes include: Bibliographic Notebooks
for Organometallic Chemistry, Catalysts and Catalysed Reactions, Mass Spectrometry
Bulletin, Methods in Organic Synthesis, and Natural Product Updates.
Microform Resources
Bio-Rad spectra, ACS Supplemental Materials, and several journal titles are available
in microform.
