General Information
Self-service photocopy machines are available in all Stanford Libraries. The Swain
Library has two digital photocopiers that make single or double-sided, black and white
copies. The machines only accept SUL copy cards ($0.13/copy). No change is available
from Swain Library staff.
Copiers that accept change are available at the Engineering Library, Falconer Biology
Library, Branner Earth Sciences Library and Map Collections, Cubberley Education Library,
the Art and Architecture Library, and the Music Library. Please call before going to other
branches to ensure equipment is working.
Patrons with Stanford ID cards can add money directly to their cards at the DART
machine. Stanford students may use the Stanford ePay service to add money to their
StanfordCardPlan. Please see
the StanfordCardPlan site
for details on this.
Visitors can buy a copy card at the DART machine with a one-dollar bill and then deposit
money onto the card. The DART machine will even print a receipt.
Please note that the coordinate libraries
Lane Medical Library,
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Library,
Hoover Institution Library and Archives,
Jackson Business Library,
Crown Law Library
and department libraries
(Classics,
Philosophy [Tanner])
have their own copy card services and that their copy cards will not work in machines
supported by another service on campus. Please contact those individual libraries
regarding their policies. Please see the
SULAIR Photocopying Services page
for more details.
Color Copiers
Color photocopiers are available on campus in the
Art & Architecture Library
and
Lane Medical Library.
Copy Cards for Individuals
Most library units have card dispensers to purchase a copy card or to add money to a
Stanford Card Plan
account. A copy card costs $1 and may only be purchased using a one dollar bill. Crisp
$1, $5, $10, and $20 bills can be used to add money for photocopying
to a copy card. The copy card dispenser will issue a receipt. No change is
available from the Swain Library. Note: wrinkled dollar bills may jam a card
dispenser.

Copy Cards for Lab Groups & University Departments
University Departments and Lab Groups can obtain blank photocopy-only cards from
the Green Library Privileges Desk, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Money may be
transferred to one or more copy cards via a journal transfer. For your
convenience, Swain has put a copy of the
Departmental Copy Card Request Form
online that must be filled out when you go to the Green Library Privileges Desk for a
Group Copy Card. Anyone can take the completed form to the Privileges Desk as long
as they have a Stanford ID for identification. Note that forms cannot be
submitted online because they require a signature. Further information on obtaining
and adding money to a group copy card can be found on the
Guidelines for Prepaid Copy Cards
page.
Bad Copy Replacements
Replacements for bad copies can be made from cards that are available at service
desks throughout the libraries. THERE WILL BE NO CASH REFUNDS FOR BAD COPIES.
