FBIS Help
The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), which we formerly
got on microfiche in Federal Documents, is now available on CD-ROM
at the Information Center Desk (1996+). Before 1996, the FBIS is
only available on microfiche in the Jonsson Library of Government
Documents.
Most of the FBIS from 1996 on is available in the World
News Connection (WNC) on the Web, via the Databases A-Z
link on the Libraries' homepage. However, the WNC has copyright
problems with some of the sources in FBIS, which means that some
documents that are cited as FBIS aren't on WNC.
For FBIS materials and cites:
- Check the World News Connection on the Web.
- If it isn't there, contact Eric Heath or Joan Loftus about using
the CDs at the Information Center Desk. Each disc needs to be
installed separately, and, with the Windows 2000 workstations,
this must be done by the technical specialist with logon access
to those machines.
- For materials or citations before 1996, see the microfiche in
the Jonsson Library of Government Documents, generally filed under
its SUDOC number PREX 7.13 in the microfiche cabinets.
