
Apple designer Jerry Manock called the user tests of mice shapes "wine-tasting sessions." These photographs show a collection of mice from one such session, circa summer or fall of 1980. Some of these also appear in drawings.
This picture gives a sense of the wide variety of shapes and button placements Hovey-Kelley designers experimented with. Note also that most of the prototypes that have buttons have two buttons, rather than one.

This picture shows the grain in the plastic, and the slight irregularities in the casting. These mice were turned out fairly quickly for testing.
