Photo of Alfonso Garcia

We are very sad to share the difficult news that Alfonso Garcia, a longtime portal monitor in Green Library, passed away Sunday, August 31, after a long illness.

Most or all of you probably knew Alfonso -- in fact, he was such a public presence at the Green Library portals, where he served for so many years, that literally tens of thousands of Stanford faculty and staff would surely recognize him for his friendly smile, his hearty laugh, and the perpetually positive and welcoming attitude with which he greeted all of our patrons, as well as the fond farewell he bade them as they left the building.

After 4 years managing SUL's Business Services unit, Regina Islas is moving on to new adventures.  Her last day with SUL will be September 19th.

In her time with us, Regina has made great strides in refining SUL's purchasing procedures, and ensuring that those procedures are available to all.  The SBS Consul site, which she initiated, is a great example of this, and she has also met with many of you personally to review those processes.

Gary Principal has been an integral part of the Stanford University Libraries for the last 32 years - all of them in the same position as Shipper/Receiver in the mail room. He retires this week.  As an important contributor to these processes, his influences helping to keep mail room operations flowing will always be valued and remembered.  Gary’s hard work, commitment, and dedication will be greatly missed.

On behalf of everyone in SUL Facilities, we would like to wish Gary the best of luck!
