2. Join Zipcar for $25 ($10 off) and enjoy $45 in driving credit
New members receive bonus driving credit with Zipcar’s limited-time offer
Need a car to leave campus? Take advantage of Zipcar’s winter promotion by April 1. You can join Zipcar for $25 for the first year ($10 off Stanford’s regularly discounted rate). Enter promotion code WINTERWELCOME2014, and Zipcar also will give you $45 in free driving*.
Zipcar's fleet at Stanford includes more than 50 vehicles at 25 locations. Rates start at $7.50 per hour, and gas and insurance are included. Discounted overnight rates are available for $36 (that’s about $2.50 an hour) from 6 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Stanford faculty, staff, and students 18 and older are invited to take advantage of this special offer. International driver’s licenses are accepted. Commute Club members receive additional bonus Zipcar driving credits and Stanford University and Stanford Hospital departments can set up free department accounts!
Zipcar is car sharing, an alternative to car rental and car ownership. Membership gives you the freedom to take a car when you want one, for an hour, a day, or a weekend. Zipcars can be reserved online or by phone. Since it is self-service, Zipcar is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
*Coupon code expires April 1, 2014. Credit will be issued in two installments ($35 + $10) upon membership approval.
3. Check out the new bike safety repair stand at Blake Wilbur Drive
P&TS also announces Bike Safety Dorm Challenge winners and a bike safety class.
Bicyclists will find a new bike safety repair stand at 875 Blake Wilbur Drive. Stanford now has six bicycle safety repair stands, which enable cyclists to make minor repairs and inflate tires for free.
The repair stands are part of the university’s efforts to promote bike safety, which include encouraging cyclists to wear a helmet for every ride and follow the rules of the road. Bicyclists also are invited to attend a free bike safety class this month offered by the Department of Public Safety and P&TS. Attend the class on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. Register on the Department of Public Safety website.
To encourage bike safety among students, P&TS held the fourth annual Bike Safety Dorm Challenge, which culminated in prize drawings in January. To participate, resident undergraduate students pledged to follow the rules of the road, wear a helmet for every ride, and respect the rights of all road users. Dorms competed to achieve the highest number of participants or the highest participation rate to win a free charter bus trip to Lake Tahoe.
Congratulations to this year’s winners! Crothers won with 259 participants and the Enchanted Broccoli Forest won a three-way tie with Casa Zapata and Muwekma-tah-ruk with 100 percent participation. Thanks to all 1,131 students who participated in 2013, an increase of 41 percent over the first challenge in 2010!
If you have questions about bike safety at Stanford, please contact the bicycle program at firstname.lastname@example.org or 650.725.2453.
