Starting September 2nd 2015, SUL began using ArchivesSpace as its new archival management and description application. ArchivesSpace is used by archivists to accession, describe and provide access to the more than 7,000 archival collections held by Stanford University Libraries (SUL).

This represents a milestone in collaboration between Digital Library Systems and Services, Special Collections and University Archives, and the Archive of Recorded Sound. Over one year in the making, great care was taken to migrate collection information held by Special Collections and University Archives and the Archive of Recorded Sound, including 11,000+ accessions, 30,000+ name records, 9,000+ subject records, 7,000+ finding aids, and 20,000+ digital objects.

This open source software replaces Archivists’ Toolkit for archival collection management and description. Information on SUL’s use of ArchivesSpace, including links to documentation, a mailing list for users, and other tips and tricks, is available to SUL staff via Consul.
