REDWOOD CITY, California

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) announced that all journals in the Science family, including Science, Science Translational Medicine, Science Signaling, and Science Advances, now feature the PRE "badge" on articles published in 2016 and beyond. By clicking the badge, readers can quickly see detailed information about the peer-review process, including the number of reviewers and rounds of review.
"HighWire has collaborated with PRE since the first integration of its service in January 2015. We can quickly deploy the PRE service on the HighWire Press Open Platform," said Dan Filby, CEO, HighWire Press. "We are pleased to support the AAAS, a publishing partner since 1995, by deploying the PRE integration to increase awareness of the contribution that editors and peer reviewers make to the quality of published research."

AAAS joins other HighWire publishing partners the American Diabetes Association and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery in leading the industry to increase transparency and trust in peer review. Science Editor in Chief, Marcia McNutt, announced the launch of PRE in the current issue in the Editor's Note, "PREview of New Products.

The PRE service also provides readers and researchers with direct links to journal peer review policies and industry initiatives the publisher supports, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), The Equator Network, and the International Association of STM Publishers.

"We are pleased to be working with HighWire to offer publishers a ready-to-deploy solution," said Eric Hall, Product Director, PRE. "Publishers can respond quickly to the growing demand for more insight into journals' peer review practices. Our service reassures readers that the journal follows best practices and encourages submissions from authors who want a fair and rigorous peer review process."

The nonprofit AAAS, the world's largest general scientific society, publisher of Science, acquired PRE in 2015, expanding PRE's efforts to support new research about peer-review practices and to develop training programs and resources that advance best practices and the quality of peer review.
