In the eighteenth century, Laura Bassi was a scientist, professor at the University of Bologna, and member of the Bologna Academy of Sciences.
Web standards watchers may have heard of the Open Annotation (OA) effort--a Mellon-funded initiative to leverage linked data and the inherent fabric of the Web to assert, store and reuse annotations--by anyone, on (nearly) anything. SUL's digital manuscript efforts provided one of the pilot use cases for the original OA rollout, and we're now hosting one of three international workshops to increase awareness of the initiative.
During Spring Quarter, the Meyer 220 Flex Class has been a hub of activity for the students and instructors of Urban Studies 166. Stanford students have been working with a documentarian, an urban historian, a professional film editor, and youth lyricists from the East Palo Alto community to create short ‘hip hop’ documentaries about the history and culture of East Palo Alto.
On April 10, three Stanford librarians — Chris Bourg, AUL for Public Services (PhD in Sociology); Matt Marostica, Subject Specialist for Economics and Political Science (PhD in Political Science); and Regan Murphy Kao, Japanese Studies Librarian (PhD in Japanese) — will talk to Stanford graduate students about their experiences moving from PhD programs into library work.
