Because of the University's Winter Closure from Monday, December 23, 2013 through Friday, January 3, 2014, articles submitted for the SUL News page will be published on the following schedule:

  • Articles submitted by 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 18 will be reviewed and published by December 18. An email announcement listing recent articles will be distributed on that day.
  • Any articles submitted after the announcement email on December 18 - January 3, will be reviewed and published on Monday, January 6, 2014.

The next SUL News email announcement listing recent articles will be distributed on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

In an article in Library Journal discussing controversial video games such as the recently released Grand Theft Auto V, the Stanford Libraries’ curator of the history of science, technology, film and media, Henry Lowood, was interviewed at length about the complexity of long-term preservation of video games and their iterations: "Digital games, as software, are a form of multimedia, and almost every other [digital] media you can imagine is embedded in games—there are movies, music, there's text here and there, animation.

The Archive of Recorded Sound has recently finished processing the William C. Lynch Dennis Brain Collection. This collection is believed to be the largest of its kind in North America, if not the most comprehensive and organized collection of recorded music relating to the British horn player Dennis Brain (1921-1957), anywhere in the world. A full itemized finding aid for the collection is now available online.
