I’m extremely pleased to announce that Barbara Krupa has accepted the position of Newspaper Digitization Project Manager. Working closely with Collection Development managers and many others across the Stanford University Libraries (SUL) and Hoover, the Newspaper Digitization Project Manager will serve as SUL’s primary point of contact with East View, who will carry out the digitization of SUL’s historical newspaper collections. The focus of the project involves newspaper holdings that are housed in two storage facilities, the Newark warehouse and SAL3 [Stanford Auxiliary Library-3], plus complementary newspaper holdings held by the Hoover Institution Archives and Library, and their replacement by digital surrogates. The Project Manager will be the logistical liaison with the vendor and with other SUL units that are responsible for processing, packing, and shipping of these materials.
Barbara is familiar to many of us at SUL and Hoover. From 2001-2011, Barbara worked as the Curatorial Assistant for the Slavic and East European Collections, managing the Slavic exchange program, providing reference services, and assisting with specialized library instruction. In 2011, Barbara assumed the role of Newspaper Collection Project Manager, completing the inventory of foreign newspaper collections in Newark and in 2015 became our Interim Selector for Slavic and Eastern European Collections.
Barbara is uniquely suited to her new role as Newspaper Digitization Project Manager. She has an extensive knowledge of our Slavic collections, a broad language background, and personally completed the inventory of the newspapers we hope to digitize. Her strong work ethic, proven project manager experience, and ability to work independently in a complex environment will ensure that this major project moves forward cleanly and quickly. Please join me in extending a very warm welcome to Barbara in this new role.
