How to Add Socrates to Your Browser Search Box

Internet Explorer Installation
If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2, you can add Socrates as a search option
in the built-in browser search box. When you select that option and do a search, your browser
will open a Socrates session and show you the search results.
To begin the installation, follow the instructions below for your browser while you are
viewing this page. If you have questions,

Installing for Firefox 2
Note: This procedure does not work with earlier versions of Firefox. The latest
version is available free of charge.

Click on the triangle on the left side of the search box in the Firefox toolbar and click the Add
Socrates option.

Whenever you want to do a Socrates search, choose Socrates Search as the search engine, as shown
in the image on the right.
You will see the red Stanford "S" as the search box icon and any searches you type
will start a Socrates session and show the results.

Installing for Internet Explorer 7
Note: This procedure does not work with earlier versions of Internet Explorer.

Click on the triangle on the right side of the search box in the IE toolbar and click Add Search Providers.
You should see an entry for Socrates Search as shown in the image at the right. Click on this entry.

In the dialog box that opens click Add Provider to add Socrates as an IE search option.

With Socrates Search selected as the search type, as shown in the image on the right, any searches you type
in the IE 7 search box will start a Socrates session and carry out a search.
