David's role in the library
I have supervised the activities of the Classification (or "CLASS") Unit in SUL's Metadata Department, since the beginning of 2006. Our purpose is to speed the throughput of incoming print monographs using Stanford's abbreviated cataloging standard, to avoid the bottleneck and backlogs that are prone to happen in academic collections. We have three main responsibilities: ensuring accurate basic description; providing English subject keywords for foreign-language titles; and, assignment of a Library of Congress call number.
Our staff consists of a mix of language and subject specialists. We work with monographs in all European languages and on all topics.
More about David
I love the opportunity I've been given here at Stanford to make full use of not only my library experience, but also my knowledge of linguistics and a variety of languages (with varying degrees of fluency) in the course of my work with the CLASS Unit.
I am a California native (from LA County) and have lived in this state all of my life except for one year. I am a foodie who enjoys cooking a lot, and eating a lot more! I also enjoy classical music, balcony gardening and the occasional round of bridge.
