Alumni Volunteer Book Reviewers

Do you enjoy reading? Would you like to be involved in the book review process for a literary prize? If so, consider signing up to be a volunteer book reviewer for the 2014 William Saroyan International Prize for Writing.

The Saroyan Prize is a competition for newly-published books intended to encourage new or emerging writers. The prize committee is seeking volunteer book reviewers to read a few of the approximately 300 expected entries and fill out a book evaluation form. The deadline for book submissions from authors is January 31, 2014. Books will be distributed to reviewers in early March.

Reviewers will receive free copies of the books they agree to review, and will be asked to complete a one-page evaluation form for each book. Readers must commit to reviewing a minimum of two (2) books. All reviews must be completed by April 21, 2014.

Skill Sets Required:
A love of reading; An ability to write articulately about the strengths and weaknesses of a literary work in the evaluation form provided; Comfort with using a wiki format for communication with the supervising staff; Able to commit to read the assigned books in compliance with the scheduled deadline; An interest in reading either literary fiction, non-fiction or both.
