The annotated bibliography on antisemitism
Note : Also know as: Retrospective bibliography on antisemitism
Asian Studies (East, South and Southeast Asia; Middle East); General and Reference Works; Jewish Studies |
| Description : | The Felix Posen Bibliographic Project on Antisemitism comprises an online database accessible through Israel's university library network (ALEPH), and printed bibliographies. The bibliography includes works published throughout the world about antisemitism--books, dissertations, master's theses, and articles from periodicals and collections. It does not include newspaper articles, reviews, and works of fiction, nor does it cover antisemitic publications. The project has two parts: the ongoing annotated bibliography (from 1984 to the present), and the retrospective bibliography, which lists books and articles, published prior to 1984 (presently includes works published from 1965-1983). The long-term goal is to compile a comprehensive listing of all works written about antisemitism throughout history. For the purpose of this bibliography, antisemitism is defined as antagonism toward Jews and Judaism as expressed in writings (e.g., the New Testament, polemical literature, works of fiction), in the visual arts (e.g., art, caricatures, films), and in actions (e.g., massacres and pogroms, discriminatory legislation, the Holocaust). Since 1988, the bibliography includes all works dealing with the Holocaust period (1933-1945), i.e., on antisemitic ideology, policy, and attitudes, as well as on the Jewish experience (memoirs, memorial books, etc.) |

Baltimore Afro-American (1893-1988)
Note : ProQuest historical newspapers
American History; News; Race and Ethnicity |
| Description : | "Founded by former slave John Henry Murphy Sr. when he merged three church publications, The Baltimore Afro-American became one of the most widely circulated African-American newspapers on the Atlantic Coast. In addition to featuring the first black female reporter (Murphy's daughter) and female sportswriters, the paper's contributors have included writer Langston Hughes, intellectual J. Saunders Redding, artist Romare Bearden, and sports editor Sam Lacy, whose column influenced the desegregation of professional sports. Through the decades, the newspaper fought for equal employment rights, urged African-American participation in politics, and advocated state-funded higher education for blacks. In the 1930s, The Baltimore Afro-American launched "The Clean Block" campaign, which is still in existence today, to clean up inner-city neighborhoods and fight crime. It stationed correspondents in Europe and the Pacific during World War II, providing first-hand reports to readers. In the 1950s, working with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the newspaper's efforts contributed to the outlawing of public school segregation."--Brochure |

| Description : | The Public Technical Reports searcj section Includes The Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) is a government organization established in March, 1957 to supply government agencies with translations of unclassified foreign documents, scholarly works, research reports and other selective source material which is not available in English. The Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Technical Reports Collection includes citations to and selected full-text of JPRS reports from 1974 to the present. Users can search the Technical Reports Collection via Public STINET (Scientific and Technical Information Network). The DTIC collection supplements Stanford Library's JPRS collection, which is only selective in the years prior to the commencement of depository distribution of the reports (1978). While the STINET web site says that the reports begin in 1974, full-text copies have been found as far back as 1960. Thus, this index is unique in providing a single point of access to nearly the entire JPRS collection. Some JPRS reports are also available via Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) daily reports. The DTIC is the central facility for the collection and dissemination of scientific and technical information for the Department of Defense (DoD). Much of this information is made available by DTIC in the form of technical reports about completed research, and research summaries of ongoing research. The grand tour
British and Commonwealth History; British and Commonwealth Literary Studies; French and Italian Studies |
| Description : | "These accounts of the English abroad, c1550-1850, highlight the influence of continental travel on British art, architecture, urban planning, literature and philosophy. This collection of manuscript, visual and printed works allows scholars to compare a range of sources on the history of travel for the first time, including many from private or neglected collections. We include letters; diaries and journals; account books; printed guidebooks; published travel writing; paintings and sketches; architectural drawings and maps. The Grand Tour is a wonderful source of information about daily life in the eighteenth century, highlighting such everyday issues as transportation, money, communications, food and drink, health and sex. The material also covers European political and religious life, British diplomacy; life at court, and social customs on the Continent, and is an invaluable resource for the study of Europe's urban spaces. There is a wealth of detail about cities such as Paris, Rome, Florence and Geneva, including written accounts and visual representations of street life, architecture and urban planning."--About page |

| Description : | Hispanic American Newspapers, 1808-1980 represents the single largest compilation of Spanish-language newspapers printed in the U.S. during the 19th and 20th centuries. The distinctive collection features hundreds of Hispanic American newspapers, including many long scattered and forgotten titles published in the 19th century. Based on the "Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project, " a national research effort directed by Professor Nicols Kanellos, this digital resource is the first in a new American Ethnic Newspapers series, available within America's Historical Newspapers |

In motion
Note : Also known as: African-American migration experience
American History; Economics and Business; Race and Ethnicity |
| Description : | In Motion: The African-American Migration Experience presents a new interpretation of African-American history, one that focuses on the self-motivated activities of peoples of African descent to remake themselves and their worlds. Of the thirteen defining migrations that formed and transformed African America, only the transatlantic slave trade and the domestic slave trades were coerced, the eleven others were voluntary movements of resourceful and creative men and women, risk-takers in an exploitative and hostile environment. Their survival skills, efficient networks, and dynamic culture enabled them to thrive and spread, and to be at the very core of the settlement and development of the Americas. Their hopeful journeys changed not only their world and the fabric of the African Diaspora but also the Western Hemisphere. AAME presents more than 16,500 pages of texts, 8,300 illustrations, and more than 60 maps. Browse by migration, geography, timeline, source and education materials. Phrase and keyword searching |
