Access and privileges

Access policies described here apply to the Stanford University Libraries. Coordinate libraries (e.g., Business, Law, Hoover, Medical) and department libraries (Classics, Philosophy) may have separate access requirements and borrowing policies; consult them directly for information about using their facilities and resources.

Courtesy

Courtesy Campus ID Cards may be issued to:

  • Spouses and domestic partners of faculty, staff members, postdocs, fellows, and students
  • Adjunct clinical faculty (access only; borrow through Lane Library)
  • Staff of Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
  • Chaplain affiliates

Privileges

  • Borrowing period is usually four weeks for books, with no limit on the number of books borrowed
  • Media & Microtext items may only be borrowed three at a time, for three days each, with no renewals
  • Courtesy Campus ID card holders are not eligible for interlibrary borrowing, UC reciprocal borrowing services, or proxy SUL Cards
  • May access SUL-restricted library resources (see connecting from off campus for more information)
