Access and privileges

Access policies described here apply to the Stanford University Libraries. Coordinate libraries (e.g., Business, Law, Hoover, Medical) and department libraries (Classics, Philosophy) may have separate access requirements and borrowing policies; consult them directly for information about using their facilities and resources.

Faculty and staff

An unlimited number of books may be checked out by faculty and staff. For other items, item limits and borrowing periods vary by library and item type. Locker rental in Green Library and interlibrary borrowing privileges are available to all faculty and staff members as well.

Faculty study carrels

A limited number of private and semi-private faculty studies are available in Green Library. Faculty may apply by completing the faculty study application and submitting it to Privileges. Assignments are generally made by the first day of Fall Quarter and last the entire academic year. Renewal applications should be submitted to Privileges by July 15 each year. All library materials stored in a faculty study must be checked out (studies are checked periodically).

Hoover Senior Fellows

Hoover Senior Fellows have the same library privileges as Stanford faculty members.

Voluntary clinical faculty members

Voluntary clinical faculty members do not have the same privileges as regular Stanford faculty. Members of this group receive Courtesy Cards. Proxy card privileges are not available, and interlibrary borrowing requests must be routed to Lane Medical Library.
