Access policies described here apply to the Stanford University Libraries. Coordinate libraries (e.g., Business, Law, Hoover, Medical) and department libraries (Classics, Philosophy) may have separate access requirements and borrowing policies; consult them directly for information about using their facilities and resources.
Short-term Visiting Scholars
Visiting Scholars who do not have an official sponsorship by a Stanford University department may visit the library as members of the public.
Visiting Scholars with a Stanford sponsorship for a visit shorter than 90 days must complete and sign an application for a SUL Card at Privileges in Green Library. The SUL Card:
- Allows building access only (no borrowing privileges), unless the residency is more than four weeks.
- Requires a government-issued photo ID for access-only privileges.
- Requires two forms of identification for borrowing privileges.
- Does not include off-campus access to online resources. For this, short-term Visiting Scholars should ask their affiliated department about getting a SUNetID.
Wireless Internet access inside the libraries requires that visitors obtain guest wireless sponsorship from a Stanford community member (library staff do not sponsor visitors), and does not include access to licensed online content and databases.
