These pages explain circulation services and policies at the Stanford University Libraries, including borrowing periods, renewals, and return policies. While policies vary by library and user privilege level (faculty, staff, undergraduate, alumni, etc.), books typically have longer lending periods than other materials, such as DVDs and media. Pay or contest a fine
Fines on overdue materials can be paid only after the item is returned or declared lost. Fines that are still accruing cannot be "paid down."
Pay in person
Green Library and the Engineering Library can accept cash and check payments at their circulation desks for all Stanford libraries. Contact other individual libraries to determine their payment policies.
Pay by mail
Make a check payable to "Stanford University Libraries" and include a note indicating which fines you are paying for. Send the check to:

Contest a fine
To contest a fine, go to the circulation desk of the library that owns the item in question and speak with a desk supervisor. Contested fines and bills must be resolved with the owning library before payment can be made.
