Tours

September tours & orientations

In addition to the introductory tours offered at Green and Meyer, some of Stanford's subject-specific libraries offer special tours at the beginning of Fall Quarter, often designed for incoming students. Tours of these libraries, as well as of the subject-specific libraries not listed here, can also be arranged by appointment.

Art & Architecture Library

Learn about the library's circulating and Locked Stacks collections in art, architecture, and design, as well as its growing video art holdings, scanning and design stations, and quiet places to study.  Tours will be held:

Incoming art students are welcome to attend the tours on Sept. 18. Orientation tours for new graduate students in the Department of Art & Art History are scheduled as part of graduate student orientation. Library orientation tours are also required for all declared undergraduate majors and minors in art history, studio art, and film and media studies.

Branner Earth Sciences Library & Map Collections

Orientation sessions for incoming School of Earth Sciences students are arranged at the beginning of Fall Quarter. Orientations for other students and researchers are available for the Earth Sciences Library, Map Collections, and GIS Services, and can be arranged year-round.

Engineering Library (Terman)

New graduate students are invited to an online demo of the amazing array of library resources from the science and engineering libraries at Stanford. Demos will be held in the MacKenzie Room on the 3rd floor of the Huang Center on:

  • Monday, Sept. 17 from 1:30-2:30 pm
  • Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 1:30-2:30 pm
  • Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 1:30-2:30 pm

You'll learn about research databases, books, e-journals, and more. You can also visit the Engineering Library's Gadget Bar and try out tablets and e-readers.

The Engineering Library will also hold an Open House. Drop by to meet your librarians and join us for coffee, juice, and treats on:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 8:30-10:30 am
  • Thursday, Sept. 27 from 8:30-10:30 am

Mathematics & Statistics Library

Learn to navigate the library, locate print and online books and journals, use course reserves, and more. Tours will be held on:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 10-10:50 am
  • Thursday, Sept. 20 from 10-10:50 am
  • Friday, Sept. 21 from 10-10:50 am

Take the elevator to the 4th floor of Bldg. 380 (the Math Corner) in the Main Quad. We'll meet at Circulation.

Music Library and Archive of Recorded Sound

The Music Library and Archive of Recorded Sound will hold tours on

  • Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 10-11 am and 11 am-noon

Each tour is limited to 25 participants; additional tours can be arranged.

Swain Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Library

Tours of Swain Library will begin at the Service Desk, and last about an hour. Tours will be held on:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10 am and 1 pm
  • Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm
  • Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 am and 3 pm
