Frederick Brasch letters to his family from Harvard, 1902
Brasch, Frederick E. (Frederick Edward), 1875-1967Four long letters totalling some 183 pages written from the Harvard Observatory on Nov. 16, 20, 25, and 29, 1902. Not having found a permanent position by age 27, Brasch left his temporary work as a bookbinder at Stanford University Press and traveled across country by train in hopes of working at an observatory. His plan was successful and he started at Harvard College Observatory in an unpaid position; later being promoted to the salaried position of assistant observor. The letters cover the story of the train trip and the beginning of his Harvard stay.

Brasch, Frederick E. (Frederick Edward), 1875-1967Scientific papers and articles concerning astronomy, mathematics, and the history of science, collected by Frederick Brasch, who was Chief of the Scientific Collection at the Library of Congress from 1925 to 1943 and later was a bibliographer for the libraries at Stanford until his death in 1967. The collection includes offprints, reprints, clipped articles, and articles in whole issues, most dating from the 19th & early 20th century. Other items inserted in booklets or between pages such as notes, correspondence, clippings, and other reprints, have been retained.

(Frederick Edward), 1875-1967Correspondence, drafts, reports, notes, scientific manuscripts, lectures, tables, diagrams, and printed pamphlets by and about leading figures in the history of science and their work. Persons represented include Sir George Biddell Airy, David Brewster, Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, and Nicholas Saunderson.Accession 1986-054, Isaac Newton manuscript notes on his genealogy [addenda], is located in box 2, folder 14.
