Concierge 51: Digitization Services In-depth: Beyond Formats and Workflows

Digitization services encompasses a diverse mix of preservation and access needs, ranging from scanning printed maps to digitizing historic media to migrating and preserving digital materials. This session will feature Dinah Handel (Digitization Services manager) providing an overview of digitization at the Stanford Libraries followed by a panel featuring Deardra Fuzzell (Cartographic Technology Specialist), Michael Olson (Born Digital/Forensics Lab), and Geoff Willard (Media Preservation Production Coordinator) discussing the intricacies of delivering high quality support for born digital and analog materials. The panelists will delve into the specifics of process, discuss some of the specialized equipment and features of the labs, machine optimization, and select recent projects.

Concierge 64: Digital Course Reserves and Digital Borrowing

The COVID-19 pandemic poses many challenges to libraries, including the accessibility of physical materials in support of teaching and learning. In a more typical quarter, faculty would place books on reserve, so that students could come to the library and check them out for a designated window of study. With most students off campus for remote instruction, colleagues across the library have adapted to the new remote learning conditions of the pandemic in a variety of ways. In this Concierge session, Dinah Handel, Andrew Berger, and Sarah Seestone from DLSS will provide an overview of the digitization for course reserves and Digital Borrowing services that were implemented in the fall 2020 and winter 2021 quarters.
