Law for librarians : a handbook for librarians in England and Wales
McLeod, T. I. (T. Ian)London : Library Association, 1990.This work provides a wide-ranging treatment of the law relating to librarianship. It is aimed at the reader with little or no legal education, and concentrates on issues of which a librarian would be expected to have legal knowledge rather than on the legal system as a whole - copyright rather than staff dismissal. After a general introduction to the English legal system, the book covers a variety of key topics including the law of copyright, legal liability to the public, and some legal restrictions on the dissemination of information (such as libel and obscenity). Particular emphasis is placed on the day to day requirements of public librarians. Included is a glossary of legal terminology, and an appendix outlining the citation and use of legal sources.
