Sustainable solutions : problem solving for current and future generations
Niesenbaum, Richard A.New York : Oxford University Press, [2020]There has been a recent proliferation in the number of undergraduate and graduate programs in sustainability-related areas1, but the number of text books that can serve these new curricula is extremely limited. The objective of the proposed book is to fill that void by offering a problem solving or solutions-based approach to teaching sustainability. This will be achieved by providing the necessary content to understand the concept of sustainability as it relates to a variety of natural resources, technologies, and social structures, and will then offer students the opportunity to move beyond the content and examine specific examples of ways that sustainability can be achieved and assessed in each of the thematic areas. The book will offer students opportunities to make interdisciplinary connections and see how things like individual and institutional behaviors, novel collaborations, innovation and entrepreneurship, new technologies, and policy decisions can be used to achieve sustainable solutions. The focus audience for this book will be undergraduates and entering graduate students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds that that have had some exposure to environmental issues who are now ready access this content within an analytical and solutions-based context.
