U.S. in the Philippines and Pacific : photograph set (half-tone) from the studios of J.D. Givens and Perley Fremont Rockett, circa 1903
A collection of 228 sequentially numbered printed (half-tone) photographs. They are uniform loose sheets measuring 5.75 x 7 inches. The images are a combination of scenes relating to the war (camps and transports, field operations, and the gruesome stuff -- hangings, dead bodies) and images of people, cities, landscape, and life in the Philippines. A very small number (fewer than 10) are of other places in the Pacific. Each image has a printed caption. Some also have a number printed before the caption, a few have a handwritten number, and many have numbers in the negative. About 25% are credited to San Francisco photographer J.D. Givens, 25% to San Francisco photographer [Perley Fremont] Rockett, and 50% uncredited or have a credit that has been obscured. All of the backs are blank and there is no publication information.
